Do we not really know what faith is in our modern culture, do we not know what it is to practise faith?
The bible says "if I ask anything in his name, it will be given" so it would seem that the recipe is to 1st align oneself with Gods way of thinking, with his priorities and then in faith make our requests known. Piece of cake right?

20 He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

I don't think we know when to get out of the way. We can't manipulate God, but I believe we often unknowingly try. Sure we will make an attempt to give Him as much glory as we can for our decisions, but that still makes it our decisions based on our judgements of what the outcomes should be. The faith we lack is that He will know and do what's best without our intervention if we are willing to seek Him and allow Him to do not some but all of the work. Peter started to sink because he thought Jesus would give him strength to walk on water instead of realizing that he had nothing to add and his faith would have had to be to allow Jesus to do it all.
