Hamsters

Hamsters, we have 2 of them. Our kids love them. 

These creatures are unusual things, they live in a small cage, sleep during the day and spin at night. They spin and spin and spin. They spin on a wheel, round and round they run on this wheel. It seems like such a pointless pattern.

A friend once commented on our pattern of thinking, that it can be like a hamster, round and round it spins. I am a thinker and a muller, this is me. Round and round my thoughts can go. I also have an active imagination and a long and good memory. I have to be careful about my thinking patterns especially when I am down and in a more quiet mood. I can allow myself to spin and spin on thoughts that are not productive, on circumstances that did not go my way. Like a hamster on a wheel it produces little and takes me nowhere.

During low times, times when I am anxious, I have to determine to set my eyes on the above, to focus on things that are pure and to give my concerns to God. Its a discipline, a good one, but one that takes a lot of work, one that is a work in progress for me. My beautiful wife has created Q cards for me with verses, scripture verses that help me out of my unhealthy thinking patterns.
